Right then, that's all from this game where Hyderabad's batting might came to the fore once again and records tumbled left, right and centre. A run-fest in Delhi has set the rest of┬аthe weekend up nicely.┬аThe 21st of April promises to be a Super Sunday with two exciting matchups on the cards. Kolkata will kick off the action by hosting Bengaluru in the first game of the day at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Following that, Punjab will square off against Gujarat in the second game, scheduled to begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). As you know, our build-up for both games will begin much sooner. See you then. Cheers!
Travis Head is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH┬аfor his spectacular 89-run knock off 32 balls.┬аHe says it's enjoyable and the boys are on a roll this season. Adds he tries to watch the ball closely and thinks he reacted to the ball perfectly. Appreciates Abhishek Sharma and says that the partnership is working quite well for them and he is smashing the spinners aggressively inside the Powerplay as well. Also adds that it's nice to have talented players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed┬аdown the order and jokingly apologises for not giving them enough opportunities to bat. Ends up by saying that the last year and a half has been really good for him with the bat and he is┬аhappy to do well at the top and take it on.
Pat Cummins, the skipper of Hyderabad, says┬аthat it was another great game of cricket. Mentions that there was not much in the Powerplay for both sets of bowlers. Adds that after the first six overs, it┬аslowed down, but it was overall a great batting wicket. Tells that there was a bit of grip in the second innings. States that seeing the batters tee off, a part of him┬аis excited and elated but part of him is worried that he will have to bowl there. Ends by saying that he was┬аreally happy with how disciplined they were in closing out the bowling.
Time for the presentation ceremony…
Bhuvneshwar Kumar┬аis in for a flash interview. He says that when you are defending those many runs, either you, too, go for many runs, or the opposition collapses as you get amongst the wickets. Mentions that thankfully, so far, they haven't gone for too many or gone for plenty. Mentions that he knows that he is not among the wickets much, but the execution is happening. Feels that it is just a matter of time before the wickets come. States that T Natarajan┬аis a guy┬аwho remains silent most of the time, does the job and goes unnoticed.┬аAdds that he is very important to the team. Jokingly says that the batters are ruining them as 180 will┬аfeel less when they will defend. Shares that┬аTravis Head and Abhishek Sharma play the same way in the nets. Further adds that it┬аis good for them as they get to practice for such situations.
Rishabh Pant says that the thought process to bowl first was the dew factor. Adds that if they restricted Hyderabad to around 220-230 they still would have a chance. States that the Powerplay made the difference. They got around 120-130 and says that were just catching up throughout the match. Reckons that the ball stopped more in the second innings than they anticipated. Says that when you have such a huge score, the pressure is always there. Appreciates Jake Fraser-McGurk and says that he is batting phenomenally and it is coming nicely for them. Ends up by saying that it's a bitter pill to take but they will look to improve and come back stronger for the next game.
Earlier in the game, Delhi chose to bowl first, but Hyderabad's openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, gave their bowlers a tough time. Head reached his fifty in just 16 balls, matching the then record of the season's fastest fifty set by Abhishek. Hyderabad reached 100 runs in just 5 overs, the quickest team hundred in Indian T20 League history, ending the Powerplay with 125 runs, the most by any team in T20 history. Despite Sharma falling just short of his fifty, Head continued his onslaught, scoring 89 runs. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen could not fully utilize the strong start. Then, Nitish Kumar Reddy┬аand Shahbaz Ahmed┬аbuilt a partnership, with Shahbaz scoring his first Indian T20 League fifty, ending unbeaten on 59. Hyderabad finished with 266 runs, their third total above 250 this season. Despite only taking one wicket, Axar Patel was Delhi's most economical bowler, conceding just 29 runs in four overs. Kuldeep Yadav, his spin partner, was expensive but was pivotal in putting the brakes on the Hyderabad onslaught and ended up┬аwith four wickets.
With a mountain to climb in the form of 267 runs, Delhi had no other option but to go after it right from ball one. Prithvi Shaw raced off the blocks quickly with four consecutive boundaries but his stay was short-lived. David Warner followed his partner back into the hut soon after. Jake Fraser-McGurk┬аunleashed a real onslaught and notched up the fastest fifty of the season of just 15 balls. Abishek Porel was unperturbed by the departure of Fraser-McGurk and ensured that the Delhi innings did not lose steam. However, once Porel got out, Delhi slowed down considerably with Tristan Stubbs and Rishabh Pant struggling to find the fence. Stubbs'┬аdismissal left Pant with all to do and the Delhi skipper just could not find his touch, resulting in the required run rate getting out of control. Delhi appeared to be on the rise with two consecutive wins before this match. However, this tough defeat sets them back to where they started.
A commanding win for Hyderabad! Job well done by Pat Cummins and his men and with this 67-run victory, they take a leap from fourth to second in the standings. Batting dominance backed up by an impressive bowling display has helped the Men in Orange and Black to secure their fifth win of the season.┬аDespite putting a mammoth total on the board, the game was far from over at the halfway mark and Hyderabad had to be up for the challenge, more so given the short boundaries at the venue. They were able to send both Delhi openers in the hut early but were soon put under the pump by Jake Fraser-McGurk┬аand Abishek Porel. Mayank Markande┬аhelped them get rid of both dangerous-looking batters and they never looked back since. Pat Cummins┬аand T Natarajan┬аbowled well in tandem┬аin the middle phase and made life difficult for the Delhi batters by drying up the boundaries.┬аNitish Kumar Reddy┬аchipped in as well before Natarajan ran through the tail, finishing with figures of 4 for 19 from his four overs, including a maiden, his best-ever figures in T20 cricket.

st InningsSunrisers Hyderabad
We are back for the all-important run chase to commence! The two umpires are out in the middle. Hyderabad players are seen having a last-minute chat in the huddle just behind the ropes near their dugout before spreading out to the field. The two dynamic openers for Delhi, David Warner┬аand┬аPrithvi Shaw, walk to the 22 yards. Khaleel Ahmed┬аhas been subbed out and Prithvi Shaw has been swapped in as the Impact Sub for Delhi. Spin to begin with as Washington Sundar┬аhas the new ball to begin this run chase. Let's play…
… The Run Chase …
Right then, it's just another opposition in the form of Delhi with the daunting task of chasing a mammoth total of 267. Their openers will aim to get on the top gear from the get-go and they do pose requisite firepower with David Warner┬аback in the ranks. Hyderabad on the other hand will try to improve their bowling performance this time and contain the batters successfully. Stay tuned as the run chase is up next.
Abhishek Sharma is in for a chat. He says that they targeted more than what they got in the Powerplay but he is happy with the team. Mentions that the message was to assess the wicket but Travis Head did really well. Adds that it has been a pleasure from day one to bat with him. Shares that they are lucky to have Head in their team. Tells that having Head at the other end, takes pressure off him and allows him to bat with freedom.
On the flip side, the Delhi bowlers found themselves in the crosshairs of the Hyderabad onslaught and were mercilessly sent on a leather hunt. Truth be told, the seamers seemed to lose their way, scattering deliveries all over the pitch and providing the batters with ample room to swing their bats freely. Amidst the relentless assault on the seamers, Rishabh Pant made a strategic move, entrusting┬аKuldeep Yadav, who rose to the occasion magnificently. Against the relentless pace of the game, Kuldeep delivered a double whammy in the same over, sending both well-set batters back to the pavilion. And the onslaught didn't end there, as Axar Patel joined the party by swiftly dismissing the dangerous Klaasen, putting a significant brake on the run flow. They bowled in tandem and kept the batters quiet for a bit. But as the seamers came back, runs started flowing with ease once again. Kuldeep again, came to bowl the last over of his spell and broke another brewing partnership, and ended up with brilliant 4-fer. Mukesh Kumar finally got the reward to bowl wide of the stumps by taking a wicket to his name in the last over.
Once again, the electrifying pair of southpaw openers from Hyderabad set the stadium ablaze with their explosive batting right from the word go. Travis Head didn't just start, he rocketed to a fifty in an eye-popping 16 deliveries, matching Abhishek Sharma's record-breaking pace. In a whirlwind of action, the first six overs witnessed the annihilation of records. But that was just the beginning. Hyderabad blazed through to a century in a mind-blowing 5 overs, smashing the record for the fastest 100 runs in the history of the Indian T20 League. It was as if these openers were on a mission to rewrite the history books, aiming to surpass their own jaw-dropping record of 287 runs. With every ball, they unleashed havoc, gobsmacking every ball into the crowd in each direction. Abhishek Sharma was the first one to depart, missing his half-century by just four runs. Aiden Markram too, departed in the same over, and following that, a flurry of wickets came quickly. Travis Head in another attempt to spank the ball into the crowd lost his wicket on 89. Following him was Heinrich Klaasen who couldn't multiply the damage this time. Nitish Kumar Reddy then played some glorious strokes and notched a brilliant partnership with Shahbaz Ahmed, and steadied the Hyderabad ship again adding 67 runs before Nitish departed on a well-made 37. Shahbaz Ahmed provided the final touches with a quickfire half-century and helped Hyderabad to mount 266 on the board.
They did it at Hyderabad, they did it at Chinnaswamy, and they did it here at New Delhi. It's almost as if Hyderabad has made rewriting record books a normalcy, effortlessly smashing past the 250-run mark with flair and fluency with the bat, leaving opponents in shock. The attack remained identical, with only the venue changed. 22 towering maximums, equalling their own record of most sixes hit in an innings in the Indian T20 League.

The bell has been rung and it is now time to set the ball rolling for the first time in Delhi in the 17th edition of the Indian T20 League. A huge roar from the crowd as Rishabh Pant┬аleads his troops out to the centre. They are joined by Hyderabad's┬аexplosive opening pair of Travis Head┬аand Abhishek Sharma. Khaleel Ahmed┬аwill kickstart the proceedings with the new ball for the hosts. He is starting with a slip in place. Here we go…
Heinrich Klaasen is in for a chat. He says that it is always fun hitting some big sixes. Adds that he feels very blessed and hopes that a couple of long balls will go out of the ground tonight. States that the standard that the team is setting upfront is remarkable. Tells that they need to keep going and continue playing with freedom. Jokingly says that batters' meetings have not been longer than 4-5 minutes. Opines that if the intensity is nice and up, you can score big runs and it is important that they back themselves.
Pat Cummins, the skipper of Hyderabad says that he too, wanted to bowl first. Says the way the boys have been batting, they can't allow the team to come hard at them. Adds that a few good death overs could have changed a little bit but overall he's happy with the way things are going.
The captain of Delhi, Rishabh Pant says that they will bowl first. Mentions that the wicket looks pretty good and they want to chase. Adds that they are playing an extra batter and are more of a batting side. Feels that there will be dew later on. States that the talk has been to stay in the contest and not let the opposition get away. Reckons that the ground does not matter and it is about playing good cricket. Informs that Ishant Sharma had a back spasm five minutes before the toss and he is replaced by Anrich Nortje and Lalit Yadav comes in for Sumit Kumar.
Impact subs nominated by Delhi –┬аPrithvi Shaw, Shai Hope, Pravin Dubey, Rasikh Dar and Sumit Kumar.
Delhi┬а(Playing XI) – David Warner (In for Shai Hope), Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel (In for Prithvi Shaw), Rishabh Pant (C/WK), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav (In for Sumit Kumar), Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje (In for Ishant Sharma), Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar.
Hyderabad (Unchanged Playing XI) – Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, T Natarajan.
Toss Update – The coin flip lands in favor┬аof Delhi and Rishabh Pant┬аelects to BOWL┬аfirst.
PITCH REPORT – Kevin Pietersen and Matthew Hayden are pitchside. Pietersen starts by telling about the boundary dimensions, with the straight hit being 74 metres, whereas it is 67 metres and 59 metres square of the wicket. He expects a runfest this evening. Adds that the wicket looks completely different than last year. Hayden opines that this surface should suit the Delhi┬аpacers. Mentions that it has a lot of grass on it and that it is really hard. Further adds that the wicket has plenty of runs in it, and unlike previous seasons, there will be carry as well. Pietersen feels that the captain winning the toss should opt to chase. Ends by saying that the ground staff reckon that there might be a bit of dew later in the game.
Hyderabad currently occupies the fourth position, whereas Delhi is trailing behind in sixth place, just two points adrift. Delhi will be determined to maintain their consistency and close the gap, while Hyderabad will be eager to secure two more points and break into double figures. Stay tuned as we bring you the toss and the team updates shortly.
Meanwhile, the team clad in orange and black has developed a habit of toppling records that were once deemed unassailable. Hyderabad's batting is riding high on cloud nine as Travis Head┬аhas been a thorn in the side of bowlers, unleashing relentless onslaughts right from the start, partnering with the dynamic southpaw, Abhishek Sharma┬аwho equally has contributed immensely. And then there's Heinrich Klaasen, whose breathtaking range hitting has left the cricketing world spellbound time and again. With effortless ease, he's been sending the ball sailing over the ropes, taking on bowlers mercilessly at will. Aiden Markram┬аand Abdul Samad┬аhaven't held back in providing the finishing touches as well. Concerns have emerged regarding their bowling unit, despite the team posting mammoth totals of 277 and 287 in recent matches, their winning margins have indeed been surprisingly narrow. In the previous game, they managed to secure victory, but by a slim margin of just 25 runs against Bengaluru. While Pat Cummins┬аhas been the standout performer among the bowlers, the rest of the bowling unit will need to elevate their game and focus on containing the opposition batters more effectively.
Delhi displayed dominance in its previous match by limiting Gujarat to a mere 89 runs. Their bowling unit has been impressive lately, consistently stifling opposition batters. The trio of Indian seamers, Khaleel Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, and Mukesh Kumar┬аhas delivered solid performances, complemented by the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav┬аand Axar Patel. Bowling has emerged as their standout strength this season. Furthermore, Delhi has shown significant improvements in its batting department. The addition of Australian sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk┬аhas brought stability to the top order. While Prithvi Shaw's contributions are crucial, skipper Rishabh Pant's unique brand of batting has fortified their middle order, and so has┬аTristan Stubbs as well with his consistency. Despite adjustments due to David Warner's absence in the top order, other batters have stepped up admirably, shouldering their responsibilities effectively.
Hello and a warm welcome, cricket aficionados! Match number 35 of the Indian T20 League 2024 is upon us and the Arun Jaitely Stadium at New Delhi is all in readiness for the first time this season to host an exciting clash between Delhi and Hyderabad. Both teams, having won their previous respective games are looking confident and pumped up having secured victories in their previous encounters. Delhi, in particular, has found its stride after a lackluster start to the tournament, securing two consecutive wins with commanding performances. On the other hand, Hyderabad, known for their ability to defy expectations, recently achieved the feat of posting the highest first-inning score in the history of the Indian T20 League, breaking their own mounted record.
… MATCH DAY …
The 2024 Indian T20 League is about to make its first appearance in the nation's capital as Delhi go up against Hyderabad in match number 35 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The 17th edition of the Indian T20 League is turning out to be one of the most fiercely contested editions where anyone can beat anyone, regardless of their position in the standings. Delhi arrive home riding high on confidence with two straight wins, with the recent victory a thumping one over Gujarat in Ahmedabad. A dominant bowling display saw them bundle the opposition out for just 89 before their batters completed the chase in 8.5 overs to make it 3 wins from 7 matches. It was the biggest win for Delhi in the history of the competition in terms of balls remaining. With the return of Kuldeep Yadav, their bowling seems to have found its mojo, and these are good signs for the remainder of the competition. Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed have succeeded in setting the tone up front, while Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar have played their part too in the middle phase. Jake Fraser-McGurk has announced his arrival on the big stage in grand style and has done brilliantly to fill the void created by the absence of Mitchell Marsh. Having missed the last game due to a niggle, Delhi are fretting over the availability of David Warner. However, Delhi boast enough talent in Prithvi Shaw, Tristan Stubbs, Shai Hope, and skipper Rishabh Pant to compensate for his absence. As far as Hyderabad are concerned, they are on a three-game winning streak. Having not managed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020, Pat Cummins and his men look determined to make it to the next stage this time around. In their last outing against Bengaluru, Travis Head's blistering ton powered Hyderabad to 287, the second-highest T20 total but the highest total in Indian T20 League history. Bengaluru made a good fist of the chase but fell short by 25 runs, handing Hyderabad their 4th win in 6 games. The Men in Orange are one of, if not the strongest, batting powerhouses in the competition, with the likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen putting their hands up for the team at different times. On the bowling front, Pat Cummins has led from the front and has been a class apart in games played on batter-friendly surfaces. T Natarajan has provided valuable support, but Hyderabad will be hoping for improved performances from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jaydev Unadkat, who are yet to hit their stride. With both teams brimming with confidence following recent victories, it promises to be an exciting encounter. Who will reign supreme? We shall find out.
