A two-day conference on the current state of education in India was held at the Vivanta hotel in Cuffe Parade, Mumbai on 2nd & 3rd August 2013. Several experts in the field discussed various issues in the field of education.
The event, titled ‘Badalata Maharashtra (The Changing Maharashtra)’ was a collaborated initiative by Marathi daily Loksatta and the Saraswat Bank, which recently entered its 95th year.
The opening address was delivered by Loksatta editor Girish Kuber, Saraswat Bank chairman Eknath Thakur and Symbiosis International University founder and Padma Bhushan recipient Dr S B Mujumdar.
Dr Mujumdar added, “Eisenhower once said that war is too serious a problem to be left only to generals. The issues in education are serious ones, and cannot be solved by teachers and education experts alone. Solutions can be provided by people whose minds have not been conditioned by the system. The solution is a proper mix of expansion, excellence and inclusion.”
